IDENTITY AND INDIVIDUALITY
1 / 1 Identity and Individuality.
The piece Identity and Individuality is made by arranging two different images printed on german etching paper by the means of traditional screen-printing techniques of stone lithography and screen printing.
Repetition and arranging components of the resulting final image into grids are the main modus operandi used to unify as well as illuminate the singularity of each individual component that makes up the final work.
For this particular work, Babu uses multiple identical lithographic prints of a drawing as the background onto which a computer generated silhouette of a human physiognomy is printed with the condition that the position of the screen-printed image be different in relation to the four points of the litho-print.
The final work in any of its different permutations and combinations ends up representing a pattern of humanity that looks almost identical from a distance, but are very much unique under closer inspection.
According to the artist, “ I wanted to use this piece to better understand these very opposite and yet overlapping concepts of identity and individuality.
